A message from Mark Wilson, our Chairperson
Hunger hurts our kids, and we’re just starting to understand the far-reaching impact of that reality. The effect of diet on health outcomes is well known, but recent research has established a connection between food insecurity and worsening mental health.
The number of children who live in Canada and are at risk for chronic hunger is shocking: 1 in every 4* children lives in a household experiencing food insecurity. When we share that information it’s often met with disbelief, “How can there be hungry children here in Canada?” It’s a devastating truth; there are chronically hungry kids in a country as prosperous as Canada.
Thanks to the support of millions of Canadians, President’s Choice Children’s Charity can be there for our kids. Our Power Full Kids programs provide participants with daily food and the tools to help them develop their growing and cooking skills, nourishing little tummies and big futures.
In my role as Chief Human Resources Officer at Loblaw Companies Ltd., I’ve seen how much the charity means to Loblaw colleagues and the network of store operators who fundraise in support of the vital work the charity is doing in their community. My commitment to them, our donors, and the children we serve is simple, we will continue to inspire your trust and demonstrate the real impact your support is having on our children.
